A Truly Special Place

This is where it all started – Old Havana with her 500 years is one of the oldest cities in all of Americas. Full of historic landmarks, medieval European squares, Africans traditions, surprising Arquitecture and interesting stories. Our Old Havana was named world Heritarge by UNESCO in 1982. It’s the perfect introduction if you are just arrived to Cuba…

In some point of the course we try to escape from the touristic area. Old Havana is not an empty city and its communities are full of live and spirit. We walk trough five hundreds years of history. We use the city as a scenario to talk about our history, culture and traditions, trying to put you in contact with our reality.

Sights

  • Plaza del Santo Angel: Our meeting point is a beautiful location at the entrance of the Old Town. Also known as Loma del Angel.
  • The Classic squares circuit: A walk that allows the visitor to experience the change and growth of a city and the history of our country.
  • Plaza de Armas: The first square of Havana. The square served as the center of power for the Spanish colonial government and as the first stone to build Havana, literally the place where everything started.
  • Plaza de La Cathedral: The spirit, the architecture ! being in this square is like a time travel. We can enter the Havana cathedral if the church is open. Place of reference for Famous restaurants and Bars in Havana. La bodeguita del Medio a famous Hemingway’s bra for the Mojito.
  • Plaza Vieja: The original city market, a good place to meet Art and Photograpy.
  • Plaza de San Francisco: and the "gentleman from paris". Another of our living stories of how a homeless earn a monument. Only in Cuba!
  • The defensive system of the Havana Bay: Havana Bay was the most important harbor during the colonial times in the whole continent. The first and last port in America: Here all the riches that where been taken from Central and South America gathers to depart to Spain. With the objective of protect this strategic postion Spain invest in building the largest defensive system in the new world, they are considered the most well preserved colonial castles in America. This group of fortesses where named also World Heritage by UNESCO
  • Floridita: One of the stops on the famous (BBB) Hemingway trail: (Books, Beaches, and Bars). The cocktails and the history of the relation between Cuba and the US.
  • Obispo street: The Boulevard and the main reference if you find yourself lost in old Havana. Informative: during the tour we will be showing also the official places to exchange money, telephone and connection. If you have a special request just let the guide knows.

Historic Characters

  • José Martí: Our national hero and one of the most important characters in our history.
  • Ernest Hemingway: His bars, the coctails and the history of the relation between the US and Cuba.
  • Eusebio Leal: The city historian. the person behind the all the movement in Old Havana.
